Art from the Heart of Aotearoa
I'm a self-taught New Zealand artist inspired by the sea, land, and birdlife that surround me. Living on Aotearoa’s east coast, I paint the places that feel like home — places where memories linger in the light, colour, and rhythm of the natural world.
Working primarily in acrylics, I’m drawn to the patterns of nature: clouds reflecting in water, windswept trees clinging to cliffs, the quiet strength of native plants. My art explores how we connect with our environment, and how emotion, memory, and belonging are woven into the landscape.
After an injury several years ago, I chose to dedicate more time to painting. Balancing this passion alongside my full-time work as an office manager, I now create original paintings, both open and limited-edition prints, and special collections for exhibitions. Each piece I make is an invitation — to pause, reflect, and find a sense of hope and inspiration in the beauty of the natural world.
Whether you’re here to view new works, learn more about my process, or explore pieces from past exhibitions, I’m so glad you’ve found your way to my corner of the coast.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about my art.
Ngā mihi,
Sue Lockett
